Compatibilizer technology innovation helps recycled plastics "primary recycling"

At the ChinaReplas 2024 International Recycled Plastics Conference, experts highlighted compatibilizers as the cornerstone technology for achieving "closed-loop recycling" of plastics. For instance, reactive compatibilizers (e.g., epoxy-functionalized POE) can enhance the interfacial adhesion between PET and PE blends by 50%, enabling recycled materials to meet stringent requirements for automotive parts and electronic housings. In wood-plastic composites (WPC), MAH-grafted compatibilizers improve the compatibility of waste wood and recycled plastics to 85% of virgin material performance, significantly reducing production costs.

Data shows that China’s recycled plastic output exceeded 20 million tons in 2023, yet high-value utilization remains below 30%. With the EU’s Plastics Strategy and global EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) policies driving demand, the recycled plastics market is projected to reach ¥500 billion ($70 billion) by 2030.
